Patients with orthopedic problems often come to us when their owner notices that the animal is not putting weight on one of its legs. It is crucial to keep in mind that limping is a manifestation of pain.
Orthopedic Examination
During an orthopedic examination, we first observe the animal in motion and perform a physical evaluation. Usually, we then utilize our digital X-ray or ultrasound for further diagnostics. Ultrasound is an excellent way to visualize ligaments, tendons, or muscles.
If it is necessary to examine the spine, specifically the spinal canal, we perform contrast myelography.
Based on the results of these examinations, we choose the appropriate treatment or arrange a surgery date with you. We also perform elbow and hip dysplasia screenings required for breeding certification.
What About Fractures?
We treat broken bones using metal plates and screws (internal fixation/osteosynthesis) or external fixation (pins combined with plastic or metal rods). Fracture surgeries are performed under general anesthesia in climate-controlled, sterile operating theaters.

Hospitalization of Orthopedic Patients
For patients with multiple injuries or in serious medical condition, we have comfortable hospitalization boxes prepared. During their stay at our clinic, we can provide them with all the intensive care that severely injured animals require.
After the Injury: “Will they run like before?”
Following orthopedic surgery, we recommend rehabilitation for our patients. Rehabilitation exercises are important for proper recovery and a return to the pet’s active life, and we perform them right here at our clinic. Equally essential for successful healing is a protective collar (e-collar), which prevents the animal from licking the wound.
The duration and extent of recovery always depend on the type of fracture, its healing progress, the temperament of your animal companion, and strict adherence to the recommended rest regime after surgery.
